Illusions by Kacey Hammell

Detective Isabella Knowles, a tough-as-nails cop, lives by the law, and knows what she wants out of life. And it doesn’t include marriage or all that comes with it. Everything Isabella has ever known seems like an illusion when a new relationship makes her feel more alive than ever before. She isn’t happy about it and fights it every step of the way.

Burned by his fianceé years ago, seer and P.I., Brady Jacobs never wants another commitment in his life. But his bachelorhood and heart are threatened when he has one of his visions and see a killer striking too close to the woman he has recently come to love.

Danger lurks close to home and neither Brady nor Isabella like that they can’t control every situation…especially matters of the heart.

I enjoyed this novel, the plot and the characters sucked me in and held my attention enough to make me keep picking it up when I should have been doing something else!

The heroine, Isabella, a tough-as-they-come cop with some serious baggage, was an interesting one to get to know. Not your usual heroine who is waiting to be swept off of her feet, she isn’t looking for a relationship, just someone to satisfy her carnal needs! I liked her a lot, she’s feisty and wild, but not so much that she made me want to shake her.

Meet Brady, equally tough, but with an extra quality, he has visions that help the police solve crimes. Not only that he is hot with a capital H.O.T. he knows just what to do with that super-sexy bod of his.

I completely adored the banter between all the characters, not just Brady and Isabella. The author certainly has a knack for dialogue. Also the secretive nature of Isabella and Brady’s sexy relationship at the beginning of the novel really burnt off the page and had me fanning my hand in front of my flushed cheeks!

Best Bits:

“Alicia Knowles was drama queen on the inside, a tough-as-nails detective on the outside, always ready to kick ass and take names later.”

Brady’s experience with little Antony brought a tear to my eye L

The mug that reads Detectives Love Handcuffs – I want one!

Verdict: If you are looking for a cop story that you can get your teeth into and will get you feeling a little on the hot side, then look no further. A nice read with great three-dimensional characters and a shed load of plot and tension thrown in for good measure.
