Deep in the Woods by Annabel Joseph

Sophie finally finds the courage to reenter the Atlanta BDSM scene after extricating herself from an abusive relationship. At a local munch, she meets Dave, a funny, laid-back erotic photographer. When she sees him again later at a dungeon, Sophie is surprised by her strong attraction, and nervous about starting a new relationship, but Dave eases her fears. They embark on a sexy, thrilling D/s relationship and Sophie finds healing and fulfillment in Dave’s arms.

But Sophie is still haunted by nightmares of her past. On a dark night in the woods with Dave and his friend Ryan, frightening memories overtake her. She knows that in order to move on, she must uncover the tragedy that haunts her subconscious.

Sophie’s quest for answers brings her face-to-face with her previous tormentor. She finds herself once more in the deep woods, not only fighting for answers…but also for her life.

Deep in the Woods is a highly emotionally charged story that could leave some readers uncomfortable.

After a few years away from the BDSM scene, Sophie re-enters in the hope of conquering the demons of her past. While she’s there she meets Dave, a dominant male who is intrigued by her and wants more of a relationship with her. Together they fight her past for the chance of having a future together.

This story has a lot of twists inside. I really felt for Sophie and she cannot remember everything that happened to her in her previous relationship. However, her reactions set things in motion. She wants to know what happened. I like the way the author explores the conflicting emotions with the characters. Dave wants to protect her while Sophie wants to know what happened.

This will have some content that may offend some readers. I had tears in my eyes when I discovered the truth. This shows BDSM in a positive light with the right man and the negativity with the wrong type of person. Annabel Joseph is the first author I know to do this and I found this read refreshing in that it highlights the bad that can happen in some relationships.

Verdict:

Extreme BDSM. Lots of emotion and some stuff that will leave you with tears. An excellent read and one I thoroughly enjoyed reading with the emotionally charged characters.
